Drying and preserving flowers part 2

February 26, 2009

You get this huge, beautiful flower garland and its to nice to trash?,drying-flowers2
here’s how to preserve it:

in general, and with any technique for drying flowers, the drying action
should be made in a stage before the climax of petals opening,
and that’s in order to avoid having petals fall off the flowers when
you dry the garland.
like so, there are certain species of flowers
that are more, or less easy to dry with certain techniques.
drying in open air for example is an effective technique for flowers of
relatively strong character, like lavender for example, and less
effective for more gentle flowers, like roses, which may and should
be dried in diffrent means.

so how should one dry flowers by hanging them in open air?.
the first step is to remove all leaves from the flower’s stem. and trim
to your length of choice.

the second step is to find a dry, ventilated spot that is also hidden from
the sun (in order to preserve the original color of the flowers),
and conjoin using a rubber band flowers that we want to dry as a garland.
the third step is to hang every flower upside down (if it’s a garland,
hang all of them conjoined), with the petals facing down , hanging off a hook/hanger/rack. leave those flowers hanging for a period of time between a few weeks and a month. make sure not to remove the flowers before they have completly dried up, in order to preserve the correct process. at the end of the drying process it is best to spray with hair spray and place somewhere in the shade, in order to retain the flowers natural colors.

Drying and preserving flowers

February 26, 2009

Those of you who like flower garlands, but not enough to investdrying-flowers
in preserving it through drying them, could learn a few tricks
from this article about prolonging the life of a garland.

first of all, to find a vase as fit as possible to the structure of the
flower; if the garland is too loaded , you might wanna find a relativley
wide vase, if the flowers are tall , use a tall vase accordingly ,
or trim the flowers to fit to your vase’s height.

then, even if the length of the flowers fits exactly to the size of
the vase, you may and perhaps even should trim one centimeter off
the flower’s length, in order to assist the process of conducting
water into the stem. when the tip of the stem dries up it jams up.
and the process of water absorption is damaged. you should try
and make the cut oblique, in order to increase the surface of absorption.
make sure the flowers do not sit out of water for more than 15 minutes.
with these two guidelines in mind, fill the vase with water up to six or
ten centimeters of the vases height. for every litre of water add a
tablespoon of bleach and ateaspoon of sugar. notice: some flower stores
send powders which purpose is to prolong the life of the flowers.
if you’ve received one, use it as replacement for bleach and sugar.

Flower Crowns

February 25, 2009

flower-crown1Necessary Materials
——————–

thin sticky tape
thin metal string
a few chrysanthemum (optionally in diffrent colors)

preparation
————–
take a small piece of the metal string that is fit for the childs head,
on which the crown will be put, wrap that up with the tape deck to create
a more comfortable feeling when wearing it. the stems of chrysanthemums
should be trimmed down to a few centimeters in length.

for conjoining the chrysanthemums to the iron string, coil the tape dec
around the stems and iron string, make sure to maintain aesthetic distances
between chrysanthemums, and to point the bloom in a single direction.
if you’re using two colors of chrysanthemum, use them randomly. if the
metal string is too long, cut it short with a cutting knife.

Flower Care

February 24, 2009

Each flower has its own life span.flowe-care
Roses, for example, have a shorter life span in the vase than other flowers (sunflowers for example)
that is more durable .
There are multiple ways to help make your flower long last more.

1. keep your flowers away from heat sources . Put your vase in a cool
place, away from the air conditioning that may dry out the flowers.

2. In order to increase the water supply from the stem to the flower,
cut the edge of the stem in an oblique shape, In order to enlarge the
surface of the stem which enables more water supply to the flower.

3. Keep changing the water in the vase once every several days. You can add half a teaspoon of chlorine which prevents an evolution of
bacteria in the water.

4.with flower arrangements. place a spong where the stems interwine.
Add water to the sponge once every two days.

Flowers have always been an integral part of designing and beautifying a space or any area,
flowers can be trendy and they are also timeless. today we see flowers in commercial fashion campaigns in interior decoration, food, medicine, art and much more fields of interest. artists are very fond of the flower for each flower has meaning and sometimes multiple meanings. a flower could have a certain  meaning in western europe , another in the far east and a completley diffrent meaning in south america. flowers in fashion are frequently used to express pacifism and feminist elements.
